Children at Camp

Nature/ A Walk in the Woods Camp

  • Grades: 5 - 8
  • Time: 9:00am - 1:00pm
  • Date: July 20 - 24

Fees: Included in the regular camp fee.

Let your child’s natural curiosity for nature be discovered. The nature camp is designed for fifth through eighth grade students to gain an appreciation of nature, while learning safety in the woods and the basics of nature awareness through exploration and exercise. Survival skills will include what to do if you get lost in the woods, wildlife tracking, and building shelters, as well as what to take with you into the woods. Campers will explore the things that creep and crawl around the woodlands and wetlands, including turtles, salamanders, snakes, insects and worms. Participants will hike in the woods in search of animal friends and use art projects, stories and games to learn how these animals live, find food and protect themselves. Campers will also learn about plants that are good and those that are poisonous. This camp will be held at Forest Glen three days and two days at Kennekuk Park. This camp is lead by park rangers and other experienced naturalists who will assist with classes, help prepare craft projects, keep track of children on hikes, and assist with anything that will make the experience of nature more enjoyable for children.
