Stroke Instruction
This class is geared toward the more advanced swimmer who may or may not be interested in the swim team. Although much focus is on the four main competitive strokes (front crawl, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly) and all the components of properly swimming these strokes.

Parent/Child Swim
The primary objective of the parent/child lessons is to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water in a 30- minute class. Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in the water and parents to help them learn some basic aquatic skills, such as kicking, arm strokes, jumping in, and breath control. Activities are based on the developmental abilities of the child. Songs, games, and toys are included.

Preschool Swim Lessons

Pike/Beginner
The pike level is designed for the beginning swimmer. Children learn the basic paddle stroke, kicking skills, pool safety, and comfort with holding his/her face in the water while blowing bubbles and paddling.
Eel - Intermediate
The eel level is for children who will put their faces in the water. These children are able to kick with an instructional device and float. They are taught freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, sidestroke, and diving is introduced.
Ray/Starfish - Advanced
At this level, children review previous skills, learn more personal & water safety, diving skills, while building endurance. Elementary backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly may be introduced.

Polliwog - Beginner
This is the beginning level for school-age children that allow them to become acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices and floating. The children will be learning the front, side, and back paddle strokes. Children will be able to swim 15 feet without assistance upon completion of this level.
Guppy - Beginner II
At the guppy level, children continue to practice and build upon the basic skills, performing more skills without the aid of flotation devices. They are also introduced to freestyle, backstroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke, and diving. Upon completion of this level, children will be able to swim the length of the pool without assistance.
Minnow - Intermediate
At the minnow level, children refine the strokes they have learned as their skills become more like those normally used in swimming. They will learn more diving skills, personal safety, and rescue techniques. At the end of this level, they will be able to swim freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke.
Fish - Advanced
At this point, students work to perform freestyle, elementary backstroke, backstroke, and sidestroke with turns. Butterfly stroke is introduced in this level. They continue learning more diving skills together with personal safety and rescue skills.
Flying Fish - Advanced II
At the flying fish level, flip turns are introduced. This level focuses on refining strokes and increasing their endurance.
Shark - Advanced
Shark students continue to improve their strokes with introduction to the inverted breaststroke, the trudgen crawl, and the over-arm sidestroke.
Adult Swim Lessons
Adult Lessons are available. Please call the front desk or call ext. 19 to see if a class has been scheduled. This class is available to all skill levels from adults who fear water to adults who want to refine their strokes.
Private Swim Lessons
Learn to swim in a one-on-one situation. Lessons are 30 minutes in length. Private lessons are scheduled at a mutually available time between the instructor and the individual. Please call ext. 19 to make arrangements for private lessons.

Group Classes
Pilates
Become stronger and more flexible with each and every class. Pilates is mat and core workout that is low impact. People of all ages and fitness levels can benefit. Learn how to make your body work for you! Classes are on regular program cycle. Classes meet in the Fitness Room. (Free trial period June 2-5)

Yoga
Ancient fitness with a modern twist! Yoga is gentle, non-impact, non-regimented form of exercise that is suitable for all fitness levels. Sessions last five weeks and require sign up at the front desk prior to first class. Classes meet in the Tae Kwon Do Room. (Free trial class June 4)

Tai Chi
Tai Chi is an exercise system of slow controlled movements of the body, arms, hands, legs and feet in coordination with the mind and breathing, generating inward and outward calm and peace. This will be a 12- week class that will require you to sign up at the front desk. Instructor is Gordan Alexander. Session: June 7 - August 23

Tai Chi for Health
Tai Chi for Health is a slow moving meditative exercise that combines stress reduction with movement to improve health. Tai Chi for Health program uses a short form of Sun style tai chi which uses more upright postures in its practice making it suitable for almost anyone. Instructor is Victor Venese. Tae Kwan Do
Little Dragons Tae Kwan Do
Students will participate in exciting activities that encourage following directions, balance and coordination. Lil’ Dragons do running, jumping, kicking and punching exercises that will develop major muscles. Discipline and safety stressed.

Youth and Adult Tae Kwan Do
Learn self confidence, self discipline, self control and self defense skills. This is a Federation Certified testing program offered through black belt. No uniform required. Sign up for one, two or three classes a week.

The Silver Sneakers
Our newest class offering! Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion, and activity for daily living skills. Hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; a chair is used for seated and/or standing support

Youth Gymnastics

Swingers
A 60 minute class that uses 4 gymnastic events (vault, bars beam and floor) to enforce basic skills. Children will continue to learn at an intermediate level when it comes to strength and flexibility. New students must be evaluated to enter this level.
Gymnastics Pre-Team
A 75-minute class geared toward YMCA gymnastics competition. Students will be instructed on basic techniques that will be the building blocks for competitive routines. Participants will use the bars, beam, vault, and floor to continue building strength and flexibility.

Programs
Child Watch Nursery
Child Watch is provided free to members with family memberships. Available only while parents are utilizing the facility. Guests $3 per child per visit.
Teens in Training
Members ages 10-14 can learn to use the Life Fitness equipment, get fit, and have fun! Four one-on-one appointments with cover basic fitness concepts, proper use of equipment, and Fitness Center conduct. Call 442-0563 ext 17 to set up an appointment.
